Hello everyone, I've only just joined today but I've found this site very helpful but I am now stuck with a problem.... I have a 1999 v8 disco 2. I only bought it a couple months back, a couple times a week in the morning the rear has dropped, once I start it up it raises back up again without a problem, the handling is pretty shoddy its like your being thrown all over the place on normal roads, don't get me wrong I love this landie and am going to enjoy it... Ok... The problem...... When I took it too the garage for a look they noticed that the air pipes at the front have been cut and sealed... The pipes I'm talking about are located next to the front wheels going to the back, I think there are 4 each side... 'think' does anyone know a reason why the previous owner would have cut them?? Should I just put springs on the back or try and fix the cut pipe thing.... It will be used as a family car but also driving abroad on adventures and seeing lots of snow bo doubt, sorry its such a long post but any help would be appriciated :) thanks

you have leaky air spring ,i fit coil spring kits to a lot of d2 that had air suspension ,many prefer them, some air ,you dont have 4 pipes for air at the front ,rh side does have active cornering enhancenement pipes that do help with handling ,if its been removed /diasabled it should have roll bars fitted bars for ace system are different, perhaps you need to find some place that knows about the systems on discos

Elsie and Dr evil thanks for the mature help. Thanks James my local garage seemed pretty confused so maybe ill go further afield.

have a look on drivers side chassis they may mean ace pipes, 2 from rear to middle were block is and 4 going to front ,pipes can corrode and be not cheap/easy to replace

It's as you look behind the front wheels, the pipes there, sorry I'm pretty clueless, the garage said as far as they can see they've cut the pipes meaning the rear air suspension is on its own with no mind to work with it.

sounds like bollocks you only have air springs on rear non at front on disco ,air pump ,valve block etc is all located halfway down passenger chassis rail ,nothing for air suspension comes forward ,if it dops overnight air spring will be leaking ,easy change one pipe at top ,2 x clip which need renewing , you release from axle by twisting bag 90 degrees once free from top

Brilliant thanks James, ill get someone else more qualified in landies to have a look. Thanks for taking the time to help me.

Ooh just remembered..... Also same topic... They also said and I have seen for myself that one of the 'wheels' under the bonnet doesn't have a belf on it... Apparently that's something to do with it too.... Think it may be called a pully.... Under the bonnet same looking as alternator/timing/belts...

most likely fault in ace system ,it uses 2 double acting hydraulic rams wich push pull on torsion bar fastened to axle as normal anti roll bars ,it uses sensors to ascertain vehicle attitude and if it leans as in cornering it applies pressure to bar to right the vehicle ,rather than fix fault looks like someone disabled system
