They don’t open or close using the key.

Is this a new issue, or has global opening/closing never worked?
They have never worked, I’ve only had the car for a couple of weeks

What spec is the vehicle? Global control wasn't configured on lesser models. I think it was only standard on S, XS, SE, HSE and HSE LUX.
It can be activated on models that don't have it, but it can also be deactivated if the owner doesn't want it on the higher models.
It needs JLR dealer level diagnostic equipment to activate or deactivate global controls.
Ok thanks for that, I have an HSE so will need to get option checked.

Global control is standard on the HSE, but can be disabled at the owners request using JLR SDD, which is the diagnostic system LR dealers use.
