Right lads I was driving down the motorway the other day at some speed in my 110 300tdi manual 5speed and when I came off the throttle and then back on in 5th gear there was no drive !

All the other gears are there fine but 5th is strange. If I put it in 5th its not there but if I push hard on the gear leaver it is there. Its like the gear has moved in the box further along the shaft. Also if I drive along with it held in 5th it seems to get tight the drive like its getting slower but if I put it in 4th no probs what so ever. Anybody got any ideas and yes there is plenty of oil in the box that was my first WISH......

Please help and gearbox buffs.....

Also is the box fairly easy to work on or are they a total pain to pull to bits and replace bits.....

Any help would be very happy for.....:D
 
Ey yup MM, you bin on ollidy with heidi or summat. Wot box is in the 300? Is the Fifth gear still in an extension to the box like LT77?

Fost thing that springs to mind is, is the gear lever set up right, then has the dowel that holds the selector bobbin on the selector shaft bent or bust.

Don't reely understand the getting tight bit!

They int that difficult to work on you just need the odd oddball puller to get things apart an a big fook off torque wrench to put em back together an somewhere clean to work on em.

Aye up Grunt.... R380 yes extension to box for 5th and reverse...

It still goes into gear just is not there...!
Its gone totaly now no 5th at all.
Spoke to David Ashcroft he said it some sort of split weld but not got the box out yet... I had a look at the service Manual and it dont look to bad like ya said. Where is yella now he gone or just gone ( AKA ).....lol
Hope all is fine over there....
Got a gearbox off ebay going to go get it from newcastle so I got loads of bits.... I know the disco box dont fit but at least I got the bits.....

If it's owt like the older boxes an the fault is with the fifth gear selector gubbins then you shunt need any special pullers or owt. It could be summat simple like the synchro housing fallen apart or the spring bust, if so yer laffing. Int the only difference between the Disco box an the defender box the gear lever remote housing, so if I'm right then your housing should bolt onto the disco box, not quite sure about that though.

Dunno about Yella he was about the other week he might have run away with Slob or summat.
 
Eh MM get a Disco box an try swapping the remotes then let us know if it can be done.





Reckon that should sort it eh Floppy an it won't cost us a penny.

Ya doing ok then tha nose. So ya drivin round in nearly a proper landy. Nice to know ya climbing up the ladder to a Defender....lol
