Having a bit of a problem getting into first or second gear. But it feels Like it's the gear stick refusing to go into the first or second gear slot no nasty noises coming from the gear box itself. Car is a 2002 td5. Any ideas?

doesn't it work easyer if u "pump up'' the clutch? ... cos if it does first of all bleed it well, if no improvement i think the pressure plate got tired. Also worth to check the lever bias

The gear stick does return to the centre ok however there is less resistance pushing it left. But the resistance does seem to come from the gear stick, not the gear box, it's almost as if something is blocking the gear stick preventing it slipping easily into first or second gear. Could this be the bias plate?

Sometimes the gear slips into first or second no problem then next gear change you get resistance, I think bias plate seems to be tbe way to go.

bias plate is on slotted holes and needs adjusting so that when complete lever put on when pushed either side and let go lever returns to 3rd 4th gear alignment,is much easier to fit with gear box top off
