Hi,

Landy in question is 300tdi 1998 R reg Disco with EDC.

Just wondering what the inner diameter of the fuel hose from the tank, into the sedimenter then off to the lift pump and filter is?

Disco is taking quite a while to start for some reason. Had the same problem with my Transit but that was the cambelt slightly out. Cambelt on the landy has just been done and it still does it so I reckon it is fuel running back.

I have ordered a new lift pump off the internet and will fit that as well as new pipe to and from it.

I am also going to remove the sedimenter completely as I don't see the point in it. I can't get it open as it is seized solid so I guess it is full of 13 years of crap anyway so it won't help the starting.

Disco is running 100% biodiesel, not that it should make any difference. Once it has been driven for 10 mins, it'll start all day pretty much first turn of the engine!

Any ideas?

I'll rip the bloody thing right out. What were they thinking???? Must have been a "it seemed a good idea at the time" moment?? :rolleyes: :D

Providiing the fuel filter is drained every now and then and changed according to service schedule, I don't see the problem :)
 
On this subject,I have recently visited a very helpful company to ask about replacements for the bloody awful LR sedimentor,

In-Line Filters, The Filter Specialists

...they carry many,many filters including ones with acrylic bowls at the bottom,seperate sedimentors like seen on lorry engines and multi/clip together filter heads that can be teamed with sedimentors in the engine bay.

Personally,before next winter I hope to bypass the chassis sedimentor on the 300 with working EDC and place a series of filters and sedimentors on the bulkhead.Since I often use SVO or WVO/DERV blends an electric heater may feature in the setup,a ring type like the bosch LR cold climate one but with a higher temp thermostat.

Having seen what crap sedimentors CAN trap,it would be nice to have one where it can be seen and worked on.I know modern filters on the whole obviate the need for one,but I would like one.

Not wishing to hyjack the thread....I wonder if one would need to add an electric pump to the fuel line,to supplement the notoriously weak lift pump,If one was to add filter?
 
You'd probably be best off with a manly lift pump. I do a lot with svo wvo bio and when it drops below 15c filteration becomes a hassle!

I was going to put a goldenrod type filter in the engine bay along with the normal one. Goldenrod traps water and ****e :)
 
If you got a bit of 15mm copper in that shed of yours Matt, few elbows, few saddles, you could run it round the outside, and keep it poslished, :p:p:p:p:D:D:D:D
 
beautiful idea.

run it under the drivers window and you could blowtorch it to preheat the fuel in the winter months.

If you're running bio, be sure that you don't just go and buy standard fuel line, as the bio will eat it.

Use nylon stuff, like the original. You can buy it as airline easy enough, with the added bonus of it being clear (can spot air leaks)

Use brass inserts and compression couplers. SSL diesel sell them.
