Hi all, on my most recent trip the landy has started making a noise that sounds like an old school fire bell. It doesn’t happen at idle or lower revs and seems to be coming from the near side. I can’t hear it from the front over the sound of the engine but it’s quite clear from the drivers seat.

Things I’ve tried/tested:
1) removed the auxiliary belt to rule out alternator/water pump bearings

2) checked exhaust for any looseness or rubbing, tightened all bolts

The engine is making normal power, and it happens in gear or in neutral on all of the boxes.

Any ideas?

(15j engine I think but definitely 2.5n/a)

It sounds to me like the plate that the bolts that go into the exhaust manifold go through is loose and rattling against the exhaust, and the exhaust is also rattling against the manifold.

Ah this is promising, if we’re saying it’s not an engine noise then it’s not really an issue since it’s not noticeable whilst driving. I will continue to try to track it down nonetheless

Find yourself a safe clear space going downhill, then switch off the engine and freewheel down. See if it stops. Take care if you have power steering of course.

So I’ve come back fresh after a couple days and look what I didn’t notice for the whole week I’ve been trying to fix this issue!! Will order a new nut and washer asap and see if that fixes it 🤦‍♂️

Thanks everyone who said it might be something like this
