So the never ending saga continues…….


Just fitted the snorkel, awaiting the breather kit which should hit my doorstep tomorrow along with the silicone intercooler hoses and new HD springs should be here this week too.

All was going well, my corners for the winch bumper were cut and bent today ready for me to weld on but over the weekend the rear sunroof had been leaking. So I go to check on it today, remove the gaffer tape that had been securing it and find that its a couple of mm open :mad: the last halfwit that had sat in the passenger seat or rear….. I suspect passenger seat and I suspect one of my friends who have been a passenger recently Jordan/Amy/Tasha, the bastard/bitch has pressed the button to open it, found it hasn't moved due to being taped down and left it without pressing the close button :mad: So in the recent heavy rain and with a small tear in the tape I'd used to secure the seals some water has gotten in and I've finally been arsed to inspect it. The rear motor is now seized so I'm having to drop the bloody headlining to take out and dismantle the motor :mad:

It would happen as well when I've got umpteen other jobs to do on the disco, this is the most important job though so the following can wait even though the parts are either here or about to land;

HD Springs x 4
Wading kit - complete
Snorkel to airbox reducer
Intercooler hoses
Intercooler cleaning
Sealing the sunroofs to the body cappings which was an original job to do anyway!
Painting the HD bumper
Welding on the end caps for the HD bumper
Welding on the bullbar part of the HD bumper
Wiring up the electric fan
Wax oiling the chassis


AND NOW I'VE GOT TO DROP THE HEADLINING AND FIX THE BLEEDING MOTOR THEN RE-ASSEMBLE!!!!

I need it all done by Friday as I'm taking Phoebe to her prom so its going to be a damned busy week with plenty of pictures :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::D

I'll be back on the headlining after dinner or possibly removing the intercooler, already taken off most of the screws for the HL so might as well crack on with what I can tonight as my list is massive :mad2:

Sunroof motor is out, time to try and fix it. Its completely seized, even the allen key emergency close wouldn't work!
 
Cheer up mate, at least you have some friends....wouldn't mind an Amy/Tasha in my disco playing wiv me knob, except I haven't got a sunroof in mine :)
 
haha well I've just sourced a spare sunroof motor from our other disco so I'll hopefully get it in tonight and tiger seal up the roof tomorrow!

Might put some tiger seal on the new motor too so water cant get inside :rolleyes:
 
Motor fitted and headlining back in, tomorrow I'll tackle the intercooler, air intake hose, Tiger Sealing sunroof to body, the winch bumper sides and hopefully either the wading kit or the silicone hoses :D

Then Wednesday should be springs and electric fan with thursday being the final wiring of the temporary spotlights before my bullbar gets welded on and I can put the HID's back on
 
My rear sunroof was leaking very badly - It had a new seal in and still water was pouring in. Turned out that previously some prat must have stood on the sunroof as it now sits in a 1" depression. Which obviously fills with water and leaks round the outer edge not through the glass seal. A very healthy dose of silicone cured it till i have the time to straighten out the roof.
 
As I am finding out thats pretty standard Disco stuff... I have just finished fitting a new engine, rad, electric fan, HD clutch, water pump e.t.c. and once I got it all done I found the bottom swival hanging off so thats on the list (packed out at the moment but need a proper fix)...

Im sure once this is done something else will decide to go and once thats done something else will rear its head...

Land Rovers are a pain in the arse, always going wrong and im use to classic VW's so thats saying something!!
 
Well with the motor done the list for today is about half of what I wrote down, hoping to get the following done in the next 9 or so hours


Snorkel to airbox reducer
Intercooler hoses
Intercooler cleaning
Sealing the sunroofs to the body cappings which was an original job to do anyway!
Welding on the end caps for the HD bumper
Wiring up the electric fan
Drilling spotlight mounting holes on bumper and additional wiring for the spotlights now that I can fit an extra two on


These tomorrow and thursday

HD Springs x 4
Wading kit - complete
Painting the HD bumper
Wiring up the electric fan
Wax oiling the chassis


Leaving this for next week

and here's me thinking you were busy :p

now all you need is the bolts like that were on my suspension - the fronts were buggers - one seized so much I actually severed the bolt trying to undo it - so new bolts required there - and then the bottom bolt of the shock started to round off - only just got that one off - new bolt needed there...all in all I replaced the 4 little bolts that hold the bottom plate on the axle that the spring sits in - M10 25mm long - incase you need to get some now, and the bottom bolt on the shock - M12 from memory ;)

I use Plus-gas the night before to help .. it doesn't but it helps me mentally .. ;)

And I have some drifts (Old 12.9 HT Allen head bolts) just for knocking through bolts I've broken heads off or took the Angle Grinder to .. :)

Thats the best thing about a Disco, if the bolts are siezed just snap them.... Try doing a 40 year old VW with captive nuts inside the chassis, when they snap it means hours of extra ****in around!!!
 
I used marine sealant on my rear sunroof (manual ones).
It's on my every grow list of jobs.
Dr_Evil bummer about that, I have similar issue with my teenage daughter and anything I own.
What's mine is mine and what's mine is hers to chuck about the place, break and generally lose/damage/break/forget in someone else's house (delete as applicable).

Got a bit done today, not quite my whole list for today got done but overall this and the HD bullbar are all that remain :D

Oh and fitting a new gasket to the sunroof (I've had a brilliant idea)




Yes there are pictures too but not many before you ask :p there'll be more tomorrow though once the intercooler goes back in as well as the HD bumper going back on the front.

Shut it you :p I'm hoping to do the springs tomorrow if they arrive if not it'll be the wading kit as that arrived today. A lot smaller than I thought it would be but it looks good as do my new silicone intercooler hoses :D

I may go buy a 6pt ratchet piece to do the shocks and springs with just so I don't end up rounding anything off by mistake! Would rather snap it than round it off really :)


Oh and I suppose I might as well clean my K&N filter tonight too seeing as I've done the intercooler. Just need to remember where I put the cleaning spray…….I know where the oil is :rolleyes:

I've been using Tiger Seal as its good stuff, not tried that one or seen it in any of the local auto shops.

Snigger :D sounds like great fun at your house then ;) take her phone away and see what happens :rolleyes:

Just for info - I did use a 6pt ratchet piece to do the shocks and still managed to round the nut :eek:

How big did you think the breather kit would be - another snorkel for the passenger side :p sorry couldn't resist :D

Well I sealed the sunroofs, painted the bumper, fitted and wired the spotlights only to find that the relay for the outer two of my roof lights has blown. Springs I'm not doing, dad said he didn't want me crawling round under the vehicle so as a gift to me he's paying for the work to be done. Breather kit I decided to leave until after it had been lifted slightly and the sunroofs just need a final inner gasket which I'm making out of Tiger Seal, my plan is to coat them in clingfilm then seal round the edges to the body so its tight then open the sunroofs, remove the cling film and run a very thin smear of it round the edges so when they shut they lock tight :)

I'll take some pics later if its not raining, I do like the new green intercooler hoses though :D



Fitting the bumper took ages though! Had to use my jack and some blocks of wood…..luckily the springs arrived as I was fitting it so I used the massive box with the springs inside to help keep it lifted in place while I jacked up the sides. Damn thing must weigh the best part of 50kg now :eek: it's not easy to manoeuvre at all!
