If the TD5 ECU detects a fault with a component and reverts itself back a "default" setting of some sort, does it detect if the faulty component has been fixed and go back to its normal setting, or does the original fault code have to be cleared?

If the component was replaced with good one the ECU will go normally on it's inputs and the stored fault code becomes "hystorical" , the benefit of clearing the code is that you'll not be tricked by it in the furure if some other codes will be stored beside it

If you replace a component that caused a fault code delete the fault code.
