it's going to be very hard if you've not got any lifting equipment
if you sit in front of a keyboard all day for a living then the 2 hours of physical activity that it will take to remove it may well seem like hard work
if you dont drain all of the fluids before removing it it's going to be very messy, additionally if you also dont protect your block paving with some sort of plastic sheeting it's really going to make it look like a scraps yards floor - but then the above is simple common sense to most people
the engine number should tell you the age of it, am sure there is an online tool to enable a lookup
i am a foundy worker, smelter in fact. our work is very physical and shovelling a couple of ton of sand each shift into moulds is not unusual. so is handballing 2 1/2 ton in 50kg bags. i have already cleaned the donor block and had to carry the bloody thing up the path from the car to the house so i'm not a 'office worker' weakling.
unfortunately the drive is not flat, infact it is a bit steep but its easier to get more muscle power in than it is to strip at the yard a few miles away.
i was gonna get a tarp and form a trap at one end for the liquids that spill but am hoping to get them all out prior to removal of block and also leave the car to drain off for a couple of days. i know i wont get every bit.
will there be fluid when i seperate engine and box?

You using an engine crane or scaffold bar,rope and mates to lift the lump??
i think i'm gonna end up using mates muscle power. i could rig up a lift off my omega roof rack and reverse it in but how accurate is that gonna be? suppose it will be nostalgic if nothing else! think it might bend roof aswell!

i think, dunno yet, i might be stripping it at the yard as i'm worried about mess. its on my mother in law's drive so i would be seriously in the dog house. hopefully i wll be able to strip and rebuild in a couple of days!
if not tho i will be taking the dee daa up on his offer of the crane, thats if i can get the currency they use in sheffield so i can buy supplies to get me over the border and back, what language do they use as i will need a translation book to comunicate with them! in fact what is theyre national dress! in fact i think i migh not risk it and ask him to meet me in no mans land!

hi it sounds to me like you,ll end up divorced!! but if you have to do it there put the tarp down first then the 8x4 sheet of ply on top, the jack/ hoist will roll on the board and hopefully the tarp will contain any spillage, hopefully, if not has the mother in law got a sense of humour?? does she like lanny,s ??? if no, tow it to your work place, (best option) alan
Personally i would make sure you use a hoist as the engine is not that easy to lift and disconnect from the gearbox at the same time although i did do my engine with out taking the rads out so i needed to be careful!! also when reinstalling i doubt you you will be able to reconnect to the bell housing with out a hoist as it is a bit fiddly to line back up.Also it is meesy even after the draining of the vital fluids it still bleeds a bit and even a small drip of oil will have the M in L after you!
