Hello from far Kazakhstan.
I have a problem here with starting of my old LRD-1's engine. Everythig was OK, and it worked norm, but some 4 days ago my battery died and i transported the car to service, they changed battery and car does not want to start (engine does not run). When they (service workers) disconnect MAF connector it runs and works for 7 seconds, after RPM goes up to 4000 and engine stalls (stops). If MAF-s connector is plugged in, engine does not run at all. Strange thing in this story is, that it worked without MAF outside before battery problem. It's cold outside (-16C) and it's worm in the service box (+15-20C) - i do not know if it does matter. HELP ME!! It's so rare car here in my country that i do not know what to do and my hands go down ((/

Have you had the fault codes read ?
problem is, that it's extremely hard, to find program to read that codes for such old car in my country. Service workers even can't find the test plug for connecting computer for LRD-1. I also do not know where it is. I know that in later models like LRD-3-4 its under steer wheel.

As they have disconnected the MAF, it is running a default map in the ECU ...

Have you checked for air leaks split pipes that go to the plenum chamber. Check the plenum chamber it's self and the inlet manifold for air leaks. As any extra air getting in to the inlet system after the air flow meter will effect the mix ...
