Hi guys, dunno If im posting in the right place so apologies. I have a 02 plate RR TDV6 diesel, had a problem with the gearbox yesterday as it wouldn't go through the gears and stayed in 1st or 2nd, I could also hear a strange whirring noise when I accelerated. I was going to take it to the garage today but when I started up and accelerated there was lots of white smoke coming out of the exhaust along with the whirring sound, and the failure to go through the gears. Have checked oil and water and both seem fine, but I have noticed a water leek from somewhere near the oil filter, seems to drip regularly and is clear water. Whirring noise seems to b coming from the turbo side but im not sure. Any help anyone can offer will be a bonus, hoping its not as grave as it seems,

An 02 plate would be the BMW M57 I6 engine refered to in Land Rover terms as the TD6...

They do have an annoying habit of blowing off the turbo hoses, this is accompanied with whoosh noises, smoke and the engine going into Limp mode along with the resulting power loss.

My first check would be to the Turbo hoses for secure attachment, no splits or cracks.

The GM gearbox on the TD6 L322's is a known weak point, but in this instance I would say it is an engine issue....check these first and report back!
