Hi ceffyn
You haven't by any chance got the switch in the centre console switched the wrong way have you ??

towsey
When you down load a pic there should be two boxes come up in the bottom left side of reply part , thum nail & summat else , press the summat else & it should come up as mine do ! hope this makes sense??

hi steve thanks for the reply not got the switch in the wrong place (i dont think have tried both ways and tried bridging the lock on the back of the panel). not 100% sure the button console is working fully. the front windows work from it and when you put the lights on the only one that lights up is the back passenger switch/button. (of course it would be one that dont work). i'll be off out to it soon to sort the rev counter so i might have a quick look see if i can swap the switches about or something see if that helps with the diagnostics

If memory serves me right the switches are swappable try the on a known window that works , If you have the back door cards off the motor only has two wires so you can check if it works with a battery, If it dose then its ether the box or a broken wire or it may be a relay, but don't ask me which one ! LOL

Steve

back card is back on now i've done the locks but i can pop that off easy enough however even if i get to the wires best power i have available is a 6v lantern battery. any idea on what relay it is (what location) i have a LOT of relays around i most likely will have one to match and swap out to check but wouldn't that affect the front windows also. broken wire is one of my fears as i have no clue where the wires run however it seems to be both back windows so would have to be a cable related to them both!

9 days into ownership of the disco and loving the daily challenges lol

So only 9 days ownership:eek: That's why it's giving you greff ! you need to go back to truck & say 3 hail marys then lay over the bonnet & while caressing the wings tell her you do LOVE her:rolleyes:;) & if she don't start behaving your gunna belt her with a BIG hammer !!:rolleyes:;);)
take battery of truck or get a long wire from battery to check window motors or you can get 12volt from siggy lighter socket, 6 volt may work be it slow you will have to give it a try

Steve

ok now i am really going to move my lazy a$$ lol i'll go grab the new spades sort the rev counter and then i'll get the panel off (if the rain eases). i'll try the 6v first and i'll report back after with if it was any use or not and you mentioning lighter socket i have a wire here fit for the job i took off something else cant remember what but it will work just have to find it haha.

ok i'll come clean not left yet still finishing my coffee, is the rear on a diff fuse! i figured they would all be on the same one!. i'll have to look later see if i can find a diagram of the fuse boxes and relay locations.

You can take the coffee out off a man, But you can't take a man from a coffee LOL
Main fuse box top row 30 amp ( think theirs only 6 ) think relays in drivers foot well !

Steve

ok so here's the update so far lol, i did fix the rev counter (woop woop actually got something done)
checked the fuses and all seem good, not sure what relay it is so havent changed that yet.waiting now for a gap in the rain to try and get the panel off to get at the wires. will report back again later when/if i get chance to get into the door

There's three fuses in the dash fuse board 1, 2 and 15 applicable to the electric windows, if any have failed then the front wouldn't function either.
As for a relay where did u get that idea from? There isn't any involve with the windows.

Suggest you get yourself a Hayes Manual for its circuit diagrams plus a meter and start testing, no good guessing, but the ecu is the first suspect as it appears tobe a common issue, unless your the first to have both left and right switches failing together.

This is where my problem lies I don't know enough about them yet and can't afford a book of lies yet lol. As for first to have2 switches go together I don't know when, how or what symptoms it had or didn't they haven't worked since before the last owner so all he knew was they don't work too! Have a tester guess for now I'll have to start tracing wires haha

As for the relay I didn't know if it had one for the auto down but now I know.. Thank you another thing ruled out

Lots of info on non-functioning rear windows on the www, but this link seem to explain the issue with the ecu clearly.
http://www.landyworld.co.uk/discovery-technical/repair-land-rover-discovery-1-rear-electric-windows/

There's no need to physically trace the actual wiring just check the continuity which u will need a circuit diagram for and then you will come to the ecu and a dead end as u won't have the test kit for that, so although it looks ok it still may be faulty and they only to find that out is replace the ecu with a known working one.

hi discool thats the post that lead me to try the soldering, i havent ruled out the lift module being dead but i dont have access to one rite now or the money to get one so im just working through everything else and testing what i can in the meantime. i have though thanks to the rain just made my self a nice 12v battery pack (3x 18650 batteries in a holder) with a push switch (push on let go off) for hooking up to the window motors and anything else i need to momentarily connect a 12v line to for testing :D

if i had access to the wiring diagram continuity would be my next step but as i dont (yet) im going to go down the old where's it going route lol

Hi discool
As ceffyn has't stated the year of his truck is there any harm in looking for a relay ?( pre march 94 have them) & yes there are 3 fuses for the lecy widows 1 for the front (not blown as they still work) 1 for the rear (may be blown as they don't work) & 1 under the bonnet ( don't think this 1's blown central locking is working) !

Hi Magicgrotto
You are correct in that ceffyn didn't state of his disco, but I expected he had a 300 disco which why he added his post in an existing 300 series thread, plus the mention of soldering an ECU by ceffyn was another clue to the model year. :p

MORNING discool hope your well
I can only relay the problems & fixes that I've had with my 94/ 300tdi disco 5 door, You have me intrigued as to whether mine has a relay so when I've finished my coffee I'm going to take the foot well cover off & see wot I've got under it ! (probably more bloody rust:eek:) LOL But there is a relay behind the passenger foot well for the multi function unit ! (presume ECU in layman's terms LOL)
:p:p back ! LOL
