There is an intermitent fault with the rear electric windows on our 'N' reg disco. Most of the time they don't work, but then occasionaly they decide to perform as they should. I have taken the panel apart with the switches in and as far as I can tell there is a fault with the supply to the switch that isolates the rear switches. I am not a sparky, but assume that the centre switch feeds power to the two switches for the rear windows. If I put a tester on each of the contacts to the centre switch, one of the wires is a constant earth and the other one seems to do nothing. How does this switch work and what could the problem be? All fuses are O.K.

if it is both of your rear windows it is most likley to be your isolator switch, either the switch is nackerd or the contacts are bad. Try bypassing the switch to see it that helps.

Have eventually got round to messing about with switches and things and have some interesting results. Sometimes back windows work and sometimes not. When they work, all appropriate switches do as they were intended and all is well with the world. When they don't work, well they simply don't work. Here's the interesting bit for those of you still awake. If rear windows don't work, turn off ignition, press button to wind down either rear window and turn ignition on again. Hey presto fully functioning windows all round until next time vehicle is stopped.
So come on then matey peeps what's the score? Is it going to be relay trouble or what?

di5comad and myself had a similar problem and my problem started as a intermittent fault like yours it ended up being the window lift ECU which is located behind the glove box the best thing to do is search the forum for window and you will get everything on the subject.

Yeah, classic Disco problem. One of the solder joints on the window ECU (located behind the glovebox) goes bad and causes the exact problem you describe.
