I go laning all the time on my own... I know the lanes, have a fully charged mobile, tools and recovery equipement.
As long as you are carefull you won't have a problem... Lanes i don't know, i normally walk the first 1/2 mile or so and see what it is like. Also a few lanes around here that i stay well away from when on my own.. Very chalky, steep and narrow!
Walked one the other day and decided not to do it.lanes change daily so hard to know what they are like from week to week.do you take a ground anchor with you
Carry International Rescue's recovery numbers....
after some experiences yesterday i certainly wouldnt go alone.
Went out to do a bit of laning but nothing too boggy as im currently on road tyres until I get my new boots.
driving along a track that was a bit rutted but not too bad, came across an area that can only be explained as churned by the farmer who had decided to tie a few cheap panels together across the area aswell. had to climb across to open the makeshift gate and then be towed through as we didnt fancy reversing 2 miles back along a single track road.
a bit later in the day we came across another single track lane that had a boulder in the road about 500 yards in, we moved it out of harms way (took 2 people to move). another 500 yards and another boulder, this time part buried and took 3 people to move. further up the lane and we came across a puddle to one side of the lane that looked ok but to the right was a load of dirt that made us suspicious, turned out the hole was around 3ft deep and covered half of the track making it near impassable. Could have done someone some damage if they just tried to drive through
If we were out alone there is no way we would have got through and before anyone asks yes they were legal byways and had been checked before we went out.
Think the farmers don't want the 4x4's on there land so they put obstacles in the way.it's not right and they should be reported.byways are legal rights of way unless closed for a specific reason.
 Talk about famous last words! You know we are gonna be watching for you now!I am usually a lone wolf when laning, (often have others in the car with me though) and there have been a couple of times where I've thought 'oh ****!' but haven't ever got stuck on a lane yet! There are only a couple of points where I have to really concentrate to make sure the vehicle keeps moving forward. Looking forward to some group laning when a couple of my mates finally get their own 4x4s![]()
