breather on rocker box blocked ,as long as when you remove filler cap its not breathing heavy and smokey its normal, underside of pistons are like a pump

No it just chuggs away to itself. Half tempted to fit an oil catcher instead of breather going to air hose - my carb's getting quite sooty...seems to be fairly smoke free once its warm though

Just had a couple of "fast" (50mph) runs across the moors to try everything out and it seems to be running well: smoother and quicker than before and I can't hear any pinking or misfiring.

One new trouble though is if I use engine braking in second to brake down to a near stop downhile. The mixture goes very very lean then when I push the clutch in the engine doesn't idle properly (about 400rpm) sometimes cutting out. Vacuum guage reads as if I had throttle half open but its not otherwise it would be revving ok. If I blip the throttle it picks straight back up and runs fine again at 14.7AFR. Any ideas I'm stumped?
