Its easy if you know how, and know about the little things that'll catch you out, and you have the tools.......if not, its expensive (in labour, not really in parts), and its a biggish job just to knock out in an afternoon or something with someone helping or whatever........There are plenty of Discos out there, its just finding a tidy one.
 
theres plenty f guides on the internet,its a straight forward job,could have the head off within 45 mins if everything is realitivly unseized.

Yes, but its still a biggish job for a novice........Then it might need skimming, then there is running around for bits etc........if you've worked on vehicles, you know how sods law normally comes into force.......nothing is ever straight forward.

I said it could be fixed, but it involves time and money, and Landylass said she would rather move onto a newer Disco......time to upgrade, and for convenience.
 
It's gotta be worth getting ya headgasket done Landylass if the rest of the disco is in good order just make sure the coolant system is bled properly afterwards.
I would however advise you not to let Series71 anywhere near it as he makes disco's break down just by being within 10yards of them.

To be honest rather than sell for £400 why not do head then sell for £1500 and still buy later jobby if that is whats preferred but bear in mind TD5's seem to becoming up for chassis welding quite often.
 
Its frustrating if you dont have the experience or even a decent tool kit but you should be able to sort something out with someone here.........new gasket and bolts is about 35 quid and a pressure test and skim if necesary 50-70. The rest is just straight forward labour thats very DIYable
 
i will buy it off you for £400 do the head gasket and radiator,full service and checkover full valet and sell it back to you for £1500 :D

That is how I explained it........about £50 in bits (bolts, head gasket and top end kit), plus it needs a rad, P gasket weeping.......and any other issues on the way..........plus maybe a head skim. Labour free, thats anywhere from £200 and up.

Its only DIY'able if you have the knowledge and tools etc. I would love to help out, but dont have the time. I love it how everyone always says, ' yeah, do it in a morning......' Bollocks, utter bollocks........ever had a sheared bolt, seized stud, split hose, or just dont have the right tool. If these jobs are so easy, then I'm sure someone will pop round on a saturday morning, and have it running by the time the football results come on, no problem..........In reality, no and thats what I told Landylass..........Unless there is someone out there who can afford to take the job on for next to nothing, then she is looking at a few hundred quid......I dont see people queueing up to do it as a favour, and that is the reality of it........plenty of talk about what a **** easy job it is, but nobody turning up with spanners
