I am pretty sure I've seen a tread where someone as done away with the Air Filter box on a 200tdi Disco, and replaced it with an Mushroom type Air Filter on the top of the Snorkel and then connected it directly to the air intake doing away with the crappy connection onto the 200ti air box.

Is this possible or did I dream it?

Certainly possible, my defender was fitted with air filter on top of snorkel then piped from wing direct into turbo intake, no air filter housing fitted whatsoever, didn't realise until I fitted safari snorkel so I need to reinstall air box now lol:)

I will have a look in morning at work at the moment, it was the military snorkel not sure if it was standard filter on top though, I still have it yes, ;)

Managed to get a pic of filter can't make out brand though, looks like anro but not sure as it's been drilled out on top to fit cover

would having a cone/mushroom out in the elements not cause any weathering issues? i.e. the filter material deteriorating? I realise that this can happen to an extremely old filter anyway but being exposed to the elements would this not speed the process up?

so does that filter sit up inside that metal housing?

Looks like exactly what i need, although your filter looks a bit past it!

Yes filter goes inside it and bolts through the top to protect from elements, mine was very rusty but I've no idea how long it was fitted, do u have a snorkel fitted already?
