+1 absolutely nothing wrong with the built in sat nav. I have the same disk in mine & it has never let me down. Bonus is that it is built into the sound system & more to the point built into the dash - not stuck to the screen!

Maybe I'll give mine a bit more attention then. Uses same disk and navigation electronics as far as I can tell (doesn't have off-road option though), but is a bit of a pain with an IR remote for programming instead of the factory knob.

Out of interest, does factory nav do postcodes outside London? My disk only seems to have London postcodes (and perhaps other cities but haven't found any others yet because I tend to use my phone resting in the ash tray instead).

Sorry to get back on topic, but doors open/closed when disconnecting battery? Unlocked presumably? So go round and manually lock after battery disconnect?

The built in unit picks the same route as the garmin. it's not the most modern system in the world but its simple enough that the wife can use it both on maps and turn by turn.
