hi, I am going to try and fit a disco 1 transfer box into my defender what do I need to buy before I can start it, seals gaskets ect, reason for fitting is the original is leaking oil so instead of repairing id fit the disco transfer box from the garage

I would just repair any leaks, output oil seals etc.

I wouldn't put it in a 2.5n/a or a 19j cause it wont pull very well

sorry forgot to say, its a 200tdi I had fitted in march the transfer box came with the engine, but never got round to putting it in

if you have hand bracket with bracket on side of box you will need to tap 2 8mm holes for your defender bracket to fit on disco box

And you'll need an extra pair of hands

Remember to change the speedo drive.

Change imput shaft oil seal as they often get trashed when taken off old box !

Good modif ! I have a 200tdi with a disco transfer box & a TD5 and the 200tdi is so much nicer to drive !

Going to do the TD5 when I get a box & time !

I've got a Disco transfer on my TD5 110 and when combined with the bigger intercooler, remap and all the other bits... Its rather nice

Drove them with standard gearing and a long journey is much more tedious with them. The reduced engine noise and extra fuel economy is well worth it.


Only minor drawback is 1st is abit tall when pulling off while towing heavy loads so probably would save up for an over-drive instead of the disco box if I didn't have as much torque.
In saying that, I also have 33x12.5s under it lol

yeh ! I had to tweak the injection pump on the 200tdi as it used to struggle on big hills with the wife, 3 sprogs,roof rack & all the clobber but it storms them now
