Hello. This is my first post on the forum so please be gentle with me!
Having recently moved out to the sticks I'm considering getting a 4x4 of some description. This would be a replacement for my van (Ford Transit Connect LWB), so would need to be a commercial/utility variant. I'm a window cleaner so need to be able to fit a 400 litre water tank and all ancillaries in to whatever I get.
I'd love a 110, but my budget will only stretch to about £4k and that doesn't get a great defender. However it does get a reasonable Disco II it would seem.
If I do go that way, what do I need to look out for? Are there common issues that will need to be addressed? If it's not inappropriate to mention it here, I've also seen a couple of Isuzu Trooper utility models which are well speed for the money and presumably have Japanese reliability!
I have run a Defender in the past, and in previous employment used both Disco 1 & 2s, although these were maintained by the company I was working for.
As whatever vehicle I get will be used to earn my living reliability is really important so honest comments really appreciated!
Cheers!
