Hello. This is my first post on the forum so please be gentle with me!

Having recently moved out to the sticks I'm considering getting a 4x4 of some description. This would be a replacement for my van (Ford Transit Connect LWB), so would need to be a commercial/utility variant. I'm a window cleaner so need to be able to fit a 400 litre water tank and all ancillaries in to whatever I get.

I'd love a 110, but my budget will only stretch to about £4k and that doesn't get a great defender. However it does get a reasonable Disco II it would seem.

If I do go that way, what do I need to look out for? Are there common issues that will need to be addressed? If it's not inappropriate to mention it here, I've also seen a couple of Isuzu Trooper utility models which are well speed for the money and presumably have Japanese reliability!

I have run a Defender in the past, and in previous employment used both Disco 1 & 2s, although these were maintained by the company I was working for.

As whatever vehicle I get will be used to earn my living reliability is really important so honest comments really appreciated!

Cheers!

Things to look out for
.Chassis ( especially at the rear)
.Leaking Sunroof
.Ace pipes ( these can leak and can be costly)
.Fuel pressure regulator

I'm sure there is lots I've missed but if you do a search there is loads on what to look out for.

I'd be tempted to go for a low spec model. (Did they do different specs in commercials? Not sure). In any case, go for one without air suspension and ACE (active cornering enhancement) because although they are both good when they work, they will eventually, if not often, go wrong and I guess off-road time will be important for you to avoid. If you can stretch to a facelift model, then do because they had a pile of little improvements that increased reliability.

Yep, litres and kilograms weigh the same.

A litre is 2.2lbs and a litre is 0.25 of a gallon.

If that helps.

i have a commercial td5 ser 2 pre face lift and at the mo she s very good never given and problems changed her to coils and of she went she carries 1-2 ton in the back with the stock that we have . the problem that i find is the f ing bulbs blowing every couple of weeks part from that good landy and you can find a good commercial for 3,500 may be less but high milage .
