hi new to the forum.i have a disco 1994 300tdiand having brake troubles mainly the pedal starts firm and stops then travels slowly to the floor it does the same with the vacuum disconnected cheers john

master cylinder is two stage first rear part does front brakes front second does rear,i would look to see if fluid is splashinging reservoir as this indicates master cylinder seals sucking air in,(while some one pums pedal )if okay look for air leak rear first

Sounds to me like your brake fluid in the system needs replacing.
