Hi Guys.
I have a 300tdi in my defender that was a 2.5TD, as the title suggests.
My question is.. how have any of you that have also done this, all be it 300 or 200tdi, routed the air flow from snorkal through air filter to turbo??. Also what piping and filter have you used to get best results.

Mine is running fine, but i can't help thinking that it could be done better.

This question is also spured on by the fact that the air filter box clamping brackets are broken and i need to find a replacement or change to something better.

A few pics:

Conversion piping route now

Not much room to go round the back as in standard defender 300tdi

Make shift mounting arms for air box (you can see the metal clamp brocken on right side.

Broken lock clip on bracket other side at clamping point.

If anyone has a set of these clamps please let me know. Was going to start a wanted thread but interested in seeing what this throws up as alternatives or replacement, first.

Thanks.

google err4688, since piping goes acroos to wing on 300 side a std 300 snorkel kit would do and maybe some tidier hoise

Cheers James.
Snorkel is already fitted on drivers side.. but the piping could deff do with being more rigid.
Do you think the route taken is the best ??

The price of those clamps is shocking. Might have to find a scrappy lol. £70 + to replace both.

Wouldn't you be better with a passenger side snorkel and much shorter air route, more like the Disco?

Might be an issue as to where to put the air filter and what type to use.
Open to trying it if anyone has a pic they can show of what they did.

Thanks Paul / James

not much point in showing mine as my 300tdi is much further forward and the aircleaner is between the rear of the engine and the bulkhead !

diesel filter is in the way for a standard 300tdi setup

If i were to go down this route, do you think i would be ok going over the top of the engine to rear, or would that be just too hot.
I'm finding that with the route i have it taking, the air pipe is pressing against the intercooler / oil pipes, and also keeps obstructing the wiring to the windscreen washers.

Thanks SteNova.
I see what you mean about the diesel filter being in the way. Also it looks like the original mounting points would actually put the air box sitting with the end going slightly further back than the back of the engine, meaning that i wouldn't be able to use the original mounting points either.
Looks like i'm pretty much stuck with leaving as is, as james stated. Just need to see if i can find some more solid piping that will follow that route.

Thanks Boris.
Am i right in thinking that you fixed it off to the bracket that ordinarily held the windscreen washer fluid, and re located that. Also that you intake was then from the passenger side wing.!!

No problem Hawky. It was a bit of a home-made affair using a 90 degree shelving bracket and some steel that I bent for another one. There are some pictures and a description here: http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f7/converted-300tdi-air-filter-set-up-235238.html

My intake is currently through the front as per standard, annoyingly I was too busy rewiring the vehicle to get round to fitting the snorkel last time I was back in UK. If you need anymore pictures let me know and I can get some for you.
