Hi, I'm new to the site and am in need of assistance, I recently bought a 1998 td5 disco knowing it had a problem with the indicators but my "friend" said it was an easy fix, but no luck yet.
The problem: the truck starts fine but once running it always indicates to turn left when the stalk is in the central position, when you indicate to turn left it still does this but when you indicate to turn right it works fine, but as soon as you centralise it indicates left again and it's really annoying. I have replaced the stalk assembly with a good one from a mates truck and the fault is exactly the same.

Any help would be much appreciated

well you've done the obvious, guess it now means there is a short further on probably between the stalk wiring and the indicator flasher unit. Unplug the loom from the stalk, and try and work out what circuits should be closed and when then use a meter to try and locate the fault. Look first for obvious physical damage to the loom........

My father in law says you should always wash a new car, helps get to know it. I kinda agree but I go round a see how stuff works, find out where all the usual stuff is, locate ecu's and fuse boxes, bits and bobs like that. Check how bulbs come out, how lamp units fit in.

There's nothing worse than changing a headlight bulb in the dark and having to work out how to get at it. Which is usually simple in the light of day.


Oh and also check what someone else has done, ESP on a landrover!
