My passenger side dipped beam is not working.

I thought it was just the bulb so tried replacing it. It still didn't work, then another and another.

I am at work at the moment so can't check my Haynes manual.

Does the Landy have seperate fuses for left and right dipped beams?

Can anyone tell me which fuse number is for the passenger side light (UK) so I can get a fuse on the way home asuming it is a fuse at fault.

LH dip is F20

Do you not have a handbook?

Let me know and I'll post a link for an on-line one for you.

Fuses seem ok so must either be a relay or a wiring problem.

Its dark and damn cold here at the moment so not a good time to be fiddling with frozen fingers.

So, how do I narrow down the likely fault?

I am off tomorrow and Sunday and will spend time trying to fix this problem.

Strange how it just happened though without warning.

One thing that may give a clue as to the underlying problem.

I have noticed on a few occasions recently, when I have unlocked the car on the remote and opened the driver's door, there is a sound and the alarm red light flashes as if it is about to activate.
Each time I have relocked the car on the remote and then unlocked and it is fine.

This maybe a separate issue?

Check your getting 12v to the bulb, could be a feed or earth fault.
Second problem is just a new battery needed in the remote.

Pouring down with rain today so my problem will have to wait until tomorrow.

Assuming there is no 12v supply to the connector, what should I be looking for?

I ssume it can't be a relay failing if it only affects one dipped beam. At the moment, I believe all lights except for passenger side dipped beam are working normally, but I will check properly tomorrow.

Not a safe assumption - the headlight wiring diag shows clearly that there are 2 fuses and 2 relays in the engine-bay fuse-box.

Relays are number 9 and number 12.

I don't know which one is left or right - but I would just swap them over to see if the other dip went out.

Will do.

I thought the fuses and the relay for the lights were in the cab / drivers glove compartment????

Torrential rain at the moment so tomorrow methinks! :D

Aha - I now see that my sentence was ambiguous - here is a correction/addition to it.

The headlight wiring diag shows clearly that there are 2 fuses in the glove-box fuse-box, and 2 relays in the engine-bay fuse-box.

Sorry for confusion.

Where are the Right and Left A frames located?

Trying to work out possible earth locations before I have a look tomorrow.

Bad weather again today so was only able to do a quick check with a multi meter.

No power to the connector.

I am on days this coming week thankfully, so lights probably won't be needed.

I have a long weekend off next weekend so will have to investigate further then.

I might play around with the relays if I get a chance before that to rule them out.

It's definately not a relay fault as both headlights share the same relay. The earth point is behind the head lamp more than likely on the inner wing (black wire). I'd be inclined to check for a good earth or check continuity between earth point and connector. If that checks out ok check for continuity between headlamp connector(blue/grey) wire and pin 87 (blue/grey) at the relay.........

I have located the earth point.
If I remove the nut on the earthing bolt to clean the area is it possible for the bolt to drop away or is it secured there?

I know this sounds daft but...
check the fuses are correctly labled on the back of the cover,
I had a problem with the side lights this week but the numbered fuses on the cover did not match up to the fuses in the car ?
I had to pull out the fuses one at a time untill I found the one that was faulty???

The two labelled as head lights both have the correct fuse rating, but it might be a good idea for me to pull them all one by one.

You never know, maybe some rewiring has taken place by the previous owner.

And the owners manual differs from the cover card,
and dosn't list all the functions of the fuses
The right hand side lights fuse also controls the speedo/revcounter lights but nowhere dose it say so?
go figure:confused:

If push comes to shove I would just put a link lead from relay to your inop bulb carrier using a 15 amp in line fuse??? But first give your earth point a good clean. Make sure the contacts on the connector are clean and a snug fit. Like I said If the other side is working then the relay is ok because they share the same relay, so if you put a link lead in go from pin 87 on the relay to the headlamp connector with a 15 amp in line fuse holder should be a blue/grey wire......

How do I get to the rear of the relay to make the connection if I have to?

I know where the relay is.

Still having rainy days here so not able to do much.

Don take this the wrong way but you're making this bloody hard work!;)
You need a simple test light, earth one end to the battery probe the bulb socket if it lights up you have power! Obvious turn it on first. Then put main beam on and check for power there. There's three terminals in the plug. The third is your earth. Take your test light and conect it to the positive battery terminal and put the probe in the earth terminal if it glows brightly it's ok if it's dim it's not!
Try that and report back

I am probably not going to be able to spend some time on this until Friday. I am working every day until then and it gets dark very soon after I get home.

Late Thursday is a possibility as I should finish work a bit earlier that day.

Three terminals in the plug?

There are only two in my connectors.

I assume you mean the connectors that plug onto the bulbs?
