Got a new issue with my Discovery.

It was very difficult to start last night and this morning.

Last night it churned on the starter motor for around 15 seconds before firing, then struggled to run, then settled down.

I know it is not this but the symptoms feel like that of a petrol injection engine with failed crank sensor.

This morning I let it sit ignition on 5 seconds then tried to start, it stated second go.

This is what I have in the form of information

2003 90,000 miles
No fault codes found
Oil level SEEMS OK, no smell of Diesel YET
Turn off, instant restart.

Anyone any ideas, or anyone local to me who could see what the issue is?

Thanks

Martin

First of all replace the air bleed valve(WJN500110) in the rear wheel side connection of the fuel filter head then run a purging sequence...if no joy i'm affraid it's about worn injector copper washers... the crank sensor should have left a fault code logged IMO

Thanks SF

Just bought one on Ebay, will try that first!

Just done another test

Turned on ignition and the fuel pump was making some pretty weird noises, like there was air in it.

Did not notice this when sat in car.

if the valve doesnt cure that it becomes more obvious that the copper washers are gone cos the pump becomes noisy then...is the filter new enough and good brand?...cos that's important too

Did filter last year, but I have a new one to go on.

depends on the brand, if it's some cheap sh*t then 6 months is too much some of them are bad from new, get mahle or coopers

Parked on the flat, no noticable rise in oil levels, but it MAY have taken in 1/4l or so, but cannot smell Diesel in the oil

Struggled after 20 minutes, stalled after starting, so had to rev a little

diesel in oil is an injector rubber o-ring failure sign they doesnt affec starting too much, usually caused by overheating episode, the copper washers are giving starting/running issues though both must be replaced once in there
