They don't need that Bud, they can use the conventional independent alarms system like we been doing for decades.

Looking at the polls of the stolen Landys, 33 percent did not have alarms and 33 percent had factory stuff which the thieves would know about.

So it now makes sense. I was wondering how so many were being stolen and the poll says it all.
 
since when were we not allowed to fit onstar style systems :confused: actually intrigued as I've just googled it and it sounds like a very good system
 
I may purchase one of those viper alarms with the smart start, I like the idea of that but given mines already got a rather good system going into it I may just opt for the tracker

Onstar will shut the vehicle off . They might get hurt from a accident. Ryder explained that long ago. onstar will also lock the doors and windows so the fookers can not get out, until the cops get them.:D works well

I have been installing Vipers over 20 years now, back then they were called DCI and they worked flawlessly.

Some models made since 5 years ago would allow you to receive a page on your phone and will send you pics as the sensors are activated. I have not purchased any within the last five years so I can just imagine how advanced they are now.

For a hundred pounds and some, it's a life saver and if you used all of its features like remote locking etc., your Landy will seem like a Limo.

With the right electronic tech, you can do that with any alarm system.
 
I notice tracker has usb, remote disable is at slow speed- think I will look at removing speed inhibit
 
I had a BMW 325i all rigged up to a remote controlled airplane transmitter. If they stole my car, just if.....I could turn on and off the lights, blow the horn, turn on the indicators randomly, spray water on the drivers face from the sun visor ( rigged to the windscreen washer pump) turn on reverse lights, make it run on four of the six cylinders.....it was fun but no one stole it though I set it up as bait with cameras to capture the video.

Unfortunately in GB. We're not allowed to 'legally' cut a vehicles engine out and should we do it and our vehicle causes an accident the owner of the vehicle is liable to a greater arse shafting session than the scrote that stole it.

I had a Clifford with blackjax fitted to my escort cabrio a few years back and it was set up so as to flash the brake lights but not cut out the engine. I soon changed that. ;) since then I have been out to too many vehicles that have failed alarm immobiliser systems. As I spend a lot of time legally removing vehicles with alarms sounding and hazards flashing and rarely get challenged I cannot see the point in them.

There are very quick and easy ways of disabling most alarm sounders and flashing lights and the scrotes know how to do it.

If I had a choice between mechanical devices and alarms or immobilisers i'd take the mechanical systems every time. The only other thing I rekon is worthwhile is a tracker. The key to a tracker though is to not let people know you have one fitted.

Being an electronic tech and until lately, the owner of an auto performance shop, I would prefer electronics of course. We know of a million ways how to electronically prevent the car from being started especially when it's ECU equipped.
I am not saying it's bullet proof but the dude who has to undo what we did would have to be an equal.

These days with lithium ion powered portable tools, it's never been easier for thieves to get though mechanical security fixtures.

Electro mechanical, electronic or mechanical security devices, it's better than none. I wished guys would think about installing a system than wait until their Landy is stolen.

No but a siren wailing at 100 decibels will alert ya unless you forgot to put in your hearing aids and spectacles to see the head lights flashing.:crazy::rolleyes::D

Leave it with me for a day, it won't. We have ran alarm wires using commercial metal cladded electrical wires.

Not joking, we had a guy who stole cars IN THE PAST, working for us after he came clean. When we installed systems he used to tell us all their tips and tricks.

He told us that people still left cars unlocked making it even easier to jack.
