hi I have a disco 1 at the moment and have had a disco 2,but the plan is to move up to the 110 defender, I will probably be able to afford possibly the very earliest td5 hardtop / utility with my budget, I was wondering do the td5 defender move on to the air suspension the same as the disco2 or do they stay with springs many thanks steve

Thanks for the quick reply 91 defender does the springs stay with csw also, I probably go for the hard top because they are cheaper but do the posher csw stay sprung also in td5 or do they go with the crap air suspension.
To be honest I would have stayed with the td5 disco, better for what my needs are, but the last d2 I had was a air sprung nightmare and the reason I got shot of it, I think landrover ruined a great truck by going all out with air for all the models, and no choice between sprung and air.

All the defenders are springs. Some do have a self leveler which can be expensive if it fails but it can be replaced with HD springs or helper springs. Some people remove them regardless of whether it works or not. If you carry a lot of heavy loads you are better off with it fitted but if you usually run light you won't notice it missing.

5 seat d2s were on coils, only the seven seaters had air

Commercial d2 were also air.
I never had any problems with the air on my d2 just exercised it often.
You can buy a coil spring kit to replace the air with.

Thanks for the replies, if you change air to coil you render your insurance invalid, as a matter of fact the insurance companies have no way of changing your policy from air to spring on their lists even if you tell them as it doesn't exist on their data base

defender it is for you then!
Aye :) at the moment I am having a couple of rides in my mates to try and get used to the come down from d1 to defender :D:D
It's a bit of a shock the disco is bad but his defender is a bit like sitting in a small kennel on top of a tractor being pulled by a bumper car :eek:
