Hi all

Having bought a Def90 which has had a Disco 200Tdi fitted ( not that well really).
I was wondering are the engines ( def90-200Tdi & Disco 200Tdi ) the same??
I have been left with an appalling fit of aux components such as fuel and air filter which are basically held in place by tywraps.
I have some photos but not sure how to post at the minute.
I was wondering the best way to extend fuel hoses so that the filter can be re-mounted on the bulkhead. My problem is that the hos going to the top of the fuel Pp looks like it is into a compression fitting where as the end to the filter is clamped with a jublilee clip or similar so i don't think normal 8mmID hose will work and i don't want to just bang in joints if i can do it properly.
Any suggestions?

I extended my fuel filter pipes with flexible fuel pipe that pushes over the top of the rigid plastic pipe with a couple of jubilee clips. Done neatly it need not look like a bodge. To ensure that the plastic pipe didn't collapse when I tightened up the hose clips, I cut little pieces of brass tube (you can get it from model shops) that pushed inside the plastic hose.

Those white blobs on your bulkhead are where the filter should be mounted - has someone filled the holes with something nasty?

Hi Instantsquid ( where do these names come from :D )

I rekoned that's where the filter should go, should there be captive nuts or something to bolt to on the bulkhead? I'm wondering how much grief it would be to get in behind dash to fit some sort of plate to bolt into if needed. I was thinking of upgrading the dash lights to LEDs as seen in some postings on Youtube by a guy in Oz but not sure where to get the LEDs from. His were direct replacements with correct bases to fit straight into where the old bulb/lamps went. If i can source these it might be a case of doing both at same time!! I think the filter would certainly look better back up on the bulkhead.

The Disco fuel filter is mounted nearer the engine block in a Disco, hence the pipes are too short for a defender engine bay. I'm not that impressed with his way of doing it, i used quality 6 mm earth cable to hang mine off ;)

You can buy fuel line to match ( 8mm i believe for pump to filter, filter to IP ) but keep your banjo hose ends as i can't find anyone who does them for love nor money ( but i'm lazy in that sense ) and extend them all for when the filter housing is put back in the original position. I imagine he's used silicone to fill the holes up, so dig it out with a screwdriver, make sure you don't push the recieving nuts for the filter bolts for the filter into the bulkhead as they're a bugger to find again.
Alternatively use self tapping bolts and position it where you like.
 
As Paul says, dig the silicon sealant out - you never know, you might be lucky and find the holes are still threaded.

The LEDs are available on eBay - I got a set for mine for £10 I think.

i'll be having a root around tomorrow for various bits and bobs.

Without wanting to sound like i need everything handed to me but do you remember what you put in as search parameters for the leds? I've tried a couple of things like landrover leds, defender dash led, etc but not come up with much of any use but will keep trying. same for google it seems if you dont get close to actual term they use then you miss out on a lot of stuff !!!

I did another search and found the same i think.

In my defense i have sent a couple of questions to the sellers though because although these all are titled as replacements for Land Rover Defenders there are bits in the small print that say they may not fit and to check first. It even says don't order more than 2 to start with!!! :confused:

This is why i was not sure if they are generic led-bulb replacements or if they were the same as described on the OZ you tube description which said his were designed specific for the job ( shame he never mentions where he got them from - message also sent to him).

I do try and carry out searches before asking "easy" questions but in this case, and many others, i think it is worthwhile asking opinions from others, who may have already done the job, as to how they got on, who they would or would not recommend as suppliers etc.

Hope this gets me off the hook a little :eek: but appreciate all and any feedback anyway

No worries! My Landy came with LEDs fitted to the standard dash gauges, but I've added several more gauges for various things, so wanted the back lights to match. I bought a set of those LEDs from eBay and also a set of the bulb-holders as I knew they wouldn't be a direct replacement for my after-market gauges. Half an hour with the soldering iron and heat-shrink gun and they're all swapped over and looking rather smart :)

Just out of interest did you go for normal white led or try the blue etc?

Blue. As I said, the Landy came with them behind the standard instruments so I wanted the new guages to match. (Sad, I know!)

Not as sad as me at the moment, LEDs have just gone way back down the line of tasks!!!

It seems 1 step forwards 2 back at the moment.

Just sorted hazzards and then went under chasis to have a clean up and wd40 the nuts and bolts for brake sorting etc and found what appears to be a bloody big oil leak from i think crank case. :doh:

This was listed in another post and i am trying to find out if it is crankcase or clutch oil. apparently one is a big job and other not so much!!! With my luck i would'nt put money on the easy one!!

Not if it's a 200tdi ! it's the 300's that are prone to pishing oil out through the rear crank seal !
 
it is a Disco 200tdi so keep fingers crossed for me, ill be degreasing in the morning and having a good look all over. Updates to follow.
