I do a mixture of both. My nearest village shop is approx 6 miles away so none of its extremely short journeys.
As per fuel, I've brimmed it to the top on both the last fills. I've not ran it out of fuel however I've got it bloody near. Both times have been between 320 and 340. I've just filled her up again to see what it does.
I've also put some wynnes cleaner in the tank as well. I'll see if that helps fuel consumption. However I not it won't help the heat :)
looking at specs, it only has a 20mpg rating or so and with a 18(17.99) gallon tank. Seems to be spot on for what it should get for mpg

30 mins !!!
I did say any engine ... :D... so that would include old tratters and me Disco ...

TD4's, along with other diesels, often take a long time to warm up in cold weather simply because the diesel being more efficient, dumps less heat into the coolant, compared to a petrol engine, coupled with having more metal to heat up too, gives extended warm up times...

Maybe I'll just have to live with it then. Problem is the dogs get in wet and it takes forever to get the Windows clear.

Is the temp gauge on the mid point ?
If not the thermostat may well be the problem, unless you have an airlock, but I doubt that as both heater pipes get hot ...

The temp gauge gets up to half after about 30 mins driving. After 6 miles it's still sat on the cold marker
