have bled it but never know if enough. pumping makes no difference. will try more but worried there might be a mechanical issue like the 300 arm wearing.

Td5 has a cast iron clutch fork unlike the pressed steel forks from earlier models.

Yes, the engine will still run smooth.

If you do a forum search it will show that the Td5 clutch can be a pig to bleed for some but bleed straight through for others.

I've got a 2000 TD5 disco. And the clutch fork went. Mine went with a 'bang' and the pedal went pretty stiff. I gave it a kick (as I was mid gear change at the time) and it moved about a cm and went solid. I was just around the corner, so I switched off, got it into gear, moved into low ratio and started her back up and drove home.

Question for you is - you have no clutch, but do you have drive? What does the pedal feel like - does it run smoothly throughout it's travel?
 
thanks for that. pedal is smooth full travel.push rod still attached to arm at slave end and travels freely. going to have another go at bleeding but flywheel worrying.
 
Some people have found that "reverse bleeding" helps when bleeding the clutch. That's pumping the fluid into the system from the slave cylinder and pushing the air backwards towards the master cylinder.
 
thanks for input. today got hold of a vacuum bleeder and after pulling litre plus fluid through got 3/4 pedal so its drivable now. what a pig, thanks again.
 
Worth checking you have fitted the slave cyl the right way up, as in nipple at the top. If it's at the bottom it will be harder to bleed
 
RAVE manual recommends jacking the front of the car up to raise the bleed nipple. If this isn't the highest point then there will be air left in there and it'll feel naff. You can also depress the pedal and prop it down with something overnight and that can help.
