I have been trying unsuccessfully to bleed clutch but getting not getting anywhere. I have tried connecting a pipe into the master cylinder and managed to get some pedal pressure, but that was from the fluid I pumped in. I couldn't pressure any air or fluid into reservoir. Is there any valve that might be stuck or is the master cylinder needing replacing?

undo the outlet pipe, use your finger as a one way valve, seal hole when pedal is rising let air/fluid out when pedal been pressed, you will need 2 people obviously,

Tried it and a little fluid came out. When we try bleeding from the slave cylinder no fluid is coming down. Tried back bleeding using the outlet at the master and managed to get fluid in and air out, resulting in some pedal feel, but the fluid was that which was introduced via the outlet rather than from the reservoir. Thanks.

it will work as long as m/c seals are good it can take time its just caused by an empty cylinder pumping air doesnt have much suction to pull oil from the res and airs as likely to go back up in the inlet as out of the outlet,they often need priming which youve done by back filling, once its sucking at the res the rest is normal bleeding

Shouldn't there have been activity at the reservoir when we were back filling, such as bubbles or increased level? In what position should the clutch pedal be in for back filling? Thanks.

Got there. I disconnected the inlet pipe from the reservoir and fed fluid in with the oil can to prime the master while my mate used a hand held vacuum bleeder at the slave cylinder. Now enough pedal feel to check the working of the clutch, which is fine. We can now happily put everything back together - propshafts, exhaust etc. At least when we get some decent weather. Should I lock the clutch pedal down overnight to try and get it perfect or wait and see if what we have is sufficient?

Just an addition to this thread. I had similar trouble with a D1. Tried everything to bleed it, gave up, went to bed. Next morning found it had self-bled, perfect pedal. Just a thought.
