im new to diesel engines.......
persume lift pump is same/ similar to fuel pump

do you need to bleed the system when changing lift pump and if so is there any one that could advise.

Hi, the guys on here would prefer to know what model/engine you have before offering advice.

I'm relatively new to diesel too but this is what I think. The lift pump is similar to a 'standard' fuel pump. When you change it, you will need to bleed the system. Get a haynes manual or the like and it should be covered in there.

Yeah once its changed you could bleed the system a bit to save turning it over for quite as long, you will need to make sure that the lobe on the cam is not in contact with the lift pump or the manaul lever will not work.

You will be able to feel this, or if you don't get any fuel after a good few pumps on the lever give the engine a quick turn on the starter to change the cam position, then try it. Pump fuel up to the pump, once you have it spilling it the pump connect the pipe and then pump it up to the fuel filter for a bit. Being the 300tdi just start it at this point and its just the same as if it were repriming a fuel filter which will self prime.
