I've had my 'new truck' for about a week... He's a Discovery TD5, 1998 (if that is an S)... For the first few days, things were weird... getting used to driving a Monster Truck... but we were getting on ok... and then, for no reason at all he decided to be mean!

Now I can only open the drivers door with the key... or with the button... but none of the other doors will open, including the back door, which is the one that's causing me a real headache as that's where the dog is supposed to sit! It took me all of those first few days to convince the dog that that was his place... and now, I have to let him sit in the front cos I can't get him in the back!

The guy I bought it from says he has asked the former owner if they have a spare key in case that is the issue... but, he hasn't been esp helpful really... said the former owner was going to get to him by tomorrow (Monday) at the latest... so, perhaps I shouldn't be panicking yet... but I don't think it is the key... granted the rubber on the 'unlock' button has come away, but pressing it is possible and it does open the drivers door, lock the drivers door and turn the alarm on/off... so that suggests its ok, doesn't it?

The switch inside, that is supposed to open all the doors manually, does nothing... Pulling the nob thingy on the door inside... does nothing...

Yesterday, the indicators stopped working as well... but today they are working again...

Any ideas???

Thanks....

First off its not a 'Truck' and surely not a 'Monster Truck' its a Land Rover, Landy, Disco or a Land Rover Discovery.

Have you tried opening the doors manually with the key?

doesn't sound like a key issue, as it opens the drivers door ok, more of a central locking issue, have you checked the central locking fuse ?

It's a Monster to me... I've been driving a Mazda 323 until last week! Sorry... not a 'truck'

There isn't a 'keyhole' on the other doors... turning the key on the drivers door... opens only the drivers door...

Thanks...

Central locking fuse... nope... I haven't actually checked anything... I'll do this tomorrow... I just went into panic mode... It was all I could do to afford the tr... landy... and it would be just my luck if I got one with an expensive 'issue'...

fingers crossed....
Thanks

Cancel "panic-mode" and calm down. nothing is really expensive on the central locking. if you don`t have the knowledge (yet) find somebody near who can help or ask Dr. Goooooooogle

Could be a number of things, could be a broken wire In drivers door trunking. Where are you located? Somebody may find the time to nip round and have a quick look, or recommend a good local garage?

Small chance but if your from Blackpool then youre welcome to nip to my garage and I'll have a quick look.

Got the same problems on mine. With mine its a faulty Body Control unit.
Degenerated into a whole series of intermittent problems including no indicators, alarm going off at odd times, no central locking, flashing milometer with a funny little symbol next to the trip meter when its playing up. no fog lights, heated rear window, rear wash/wipe etc. Finally topped out with finding the car with all the dash lights on in the morning, starting it, turning off and pulling the key out and the engine keeps running. then the central locking decides to work and superlocks me in the car.
Got a second hand BCU off ebay which I have a nasty feeling is faulty as well.
Sorry, love it to death but when it does go wrong its never anything simple. Mind you, you might be lucky and its something else.
