Good evening everyone,

For the last 3 weeks I have had the problem that when I press the button to open the car, all the doors open - except the driver's door.
The key works, the handle works and pulling up the pin manually also works.

There is a loud whirring noise - from the motor in the door - both when opening and closing the door with the remote control. I have taken a photo - maybe someone will recognise something.

So - the motor comes on but does not push the pin up or down. What could it be?

Thanks!!!

Link off or the gears have failed.

...yes, it sounds like the gears are defective.
is this a unit that needs to be replaced?
the motor seems to be riveted?
How do I get it replaced? Thanks!!

ohhh,
the whole only exists as a unit!
Very expensive!
Can it be removed and repaired? Has anyone ever done it?

Do a search, I think certain MGF lock assemblies are the same as the P38 but much cheaper. I would certainly take the lock assembly out, dismantle it and check what is wrong. It may be repairable

If the motor runs, but doesn't unlock there's probably stripped gears inside. Most P38 latches suffer failing microswitches, but the motors do fail - mainly the brushes.

I have repaired some of mine. There's about 6 or 7 screws holding it all together. The motor is inside the plastic housing & unclips from the gears. The lock-unlock motors are identical in all four doors, but the gears are different. Front passenger doors only have 2 microswitches, but drivers doors have 3.

If you want to refurb it, get several spare P38 latches & start learning how to dismantle & re-assemble one. Then pick the best of the bits & make a good latch.
