I'm changing my freelanders water at the weekend as it has no service history. All the freelanders I've seen seem to have pink coolant in. However, I have a load of blue. Does it matter?
 
Only kidding

I have to put the pink stuff into the TD5 Discovery as it contains O.A.T
and I'm sure the Freelander is the same.

I've used Blucol for years. Makes no difference to the cooling system what so ever. It's listed as suitable in the service manual. . Oat is only specified to meet anti pollution regulations.
It doesn't need to be changed so often which is why it's used, ie less changes = less pollution.
I use Blucol because I've 30 gallons in Stock. Once I've run out I'll use Oat.

Oat antifreeze has more advanced long life anti-corrosion properties than that of ethylene glycol (blue) antifreeze. Blue antifreeze is perfectly acceptable if you don't mind changing it every 2 years. If you want to leave it for up to 5 years use Oat ;)

I've been reading a few things about copper heater matrixes failure with Oat antifreeze which is curious. Glycol antifreeze is non-reactive to copper as it isn't an acid but Oat is! Something to watch I think ;)
