So, bought a 110 csw 200tdi last week, and it had been sitting in a shed for the guts of three years before i got it, so the brakes left a lot to desired for, my first port of call was to bleed the system, as the brakes were literally non existent, after bleeding them, they are slightly better (they stop it at rolling speed) but the pedal is still very soft. there appears to be no leaks in the system.

Any thoughts on what to look at??

will give that a go so, had a search there, when adjusting them is it just a case of spinning the wheel and adjusting them till it stops pinning, then backing it off a bit?

Correct but with with both adjusters on the same wheel ( fore and aft )

thanks sypher, will do my homework on this in the morning, might try adjusting them in the morning to see if that improves things, im starting to understand the whole system a bit better now, is it possible that if one shoe on one side was seized or needed a lot of adjustment it would cause a similar issue??

Siezed not so much just poor braking as only one shoe would be moving only . but try this ( might be able to read it , not posted it before )

Right, i haven't had much of a look at this yet as im halfways up the country, but ive been looking at doing an overhaul on the rear brakes, for piece of mind, i can get a set of cylinders, shoes and braided 2"+ s/s brake lines for £75 which is fairly reasonable i think.

my questions are:

its a 1991 110 with drums on the back, is the '3 piece 110 NON ABS' kit the right one?

also, i was pressing the brake with the engine off, and when releases there is a 'whine/creaking' noise coming from somewhere central on or over the back axle, i couldn't pinpoint it but has anyone got a clue what it might be? i reckon this is probably the problem if i could just find what it is, i need to know before i order parts, so i can include it in the list.

My dad changed the brake servo on his, and it made a bigger difference than changing the rear axle to discs :D
