you woud have been able to pull disc off with the caliper in place along with pipes and cables i dont think so ,i often find them without springs and seized on wheels this never happens,i havent a problem with springs its just that they are only there to hold disc in place with caliper off and they do make caliper replacement easier they have no part in the securing off disc during breaking thats done by wheel studs and wheels, i think insurance co might be more interested in condition of brgs ,disc,pads ,pipes etc than those screws as for micks last statement they are titted to hold disc in place while servicing vehicle not as brake security

Hippo, I've always found that my wheels seized around the hub spigot itself rather than the disc when I came to remove my rear wheels. Had a puncture one night & couldn't remove the bloody wheel as it was seized solid. Luckily it was a slow puncture so I was able to pump it up to get home. I now carry a large soft face mallet & copper grease for any future incidents.

Good idea that. Once had the same thing happen on another car. I always carry blocks of wood to in the back of my Freelander just in case something needs whacked. That includes tratter boys.

Anyway, off out to remove me brake screws now. Also some of the wheel nuts, a few prop shaft bolts, and haft the bolts holding me gearbox together. The eggsause has one too many brackets too. :doh:
