True, but.....would you feel safe without them? And what would someone elce think/say if they changed a wheel for you and noticed they were missing?? Not a situation I, and probably many others, would want to be in.

I suppose there is a risk of some dirt or small stone dropping down any gap that might open up when you take a wheel off and the disc falls out a little. Then it might just hold the disc out of true and so cause a problem down the line.

If I'm of a small mind, why do you find it so hard to comprehend, them little screws are necessary? If they are not necessary, why do land rover, and just about every other car manufacturer, use them? Is there huge money making scheme? Cos I bet them screws cost a fortune to make?!

The screws are there to hold the disc in place. Its true the wheel nuts have a greater impact on keeping the disc (and wheel) in place, but anyone looking at a vehicle with screws missing would ask why. The result of this would be the screws were missing due to the work being incomplete. That being the case, it would be questioned as to weather the work had been carried out correctly, by someone of adequate knowledge, to a level of repair expected. That level being quoted in the LR repairs manual. Also good automobile engineering practice.
Its also true that a car would pass an mot with these screws missing, as the examiner wouldnt be able to see if they were missing or not during an mot. Reason being, theyre hidden by the wheels.
When I recently did my pads/discs at the front I found the last person to remove the wheel didnt use an anti seize compound between the wheel and disc. End result the wheel wouldnt come off. If the screws were missing, the disc would have come off, along wiff a snapped brake pipe and abs cable.
Just for the record, the screws cost £2.44+vat for a bag of 5.
With regards to your question, ask an insurance company. As I said, if they were to see your vehicle with the screws missing, they would question this. This may lead to them refusing a claim. Theyre very good at inspecting vehicles for incorrect maintenance and repair. This effects many other items on your vehicle. Your choice.
