Is one of these worth buying will it work with the rangie? I know theyre only like a tenner.

I believe it works to so extent on v8 and use the torque app on phone and you get live engine data, some one else will know more than me as have a diesel.

Carbonbiped i read your bit about the floods in shepperton, it was fun round that area, but not for the people affected, i helped out at penton park.

Hi I believe that they only read engine data on the later p38 RR, none of the other functions. but someone with much better knowledge than I will be along soon to inform you better

Id want a hardwired connection when using diagnostics to read / write data to a car
Let alone a Bluetooth connection !

Brianp38dse you are so right !

My good pal lives in the corner house at junction of Desborough Close & Ferry Lane, I went there to help him sand bag the house and ended up being there a week rescuing people and taking supplies in as Ferry Lane & Docket Eddy Lane were flooded to nearly a meter in places (see pics and vids) Police and Water authority said it was to deep and too dangerous to drive those roads ! so we did it ourselves sometimes using the sunroof to get out the RR, it felt really good to help some of those people who were just so grateful to the half dozen Land Rovers Discos and Rangies that came to their assistance ! but there were a few people out puddle jumping and causing a nuisance, normally found to be in a Toyota PICK UP ! Nuff Said

Know that area very well, it was not good at all round there, the people i helped were glad of the asistance as they werent get much help.

Would be for a derv. Just out of pure curiosity would it be any use lol. they'll be somone round here to read a code if need be.

Tell you what, just out of curiosity I'll plug mine in tomorrow and see what happens. I haven't got high hopes though!

l use the elm one l leave it in all the time . as the lpg relies on the fuel trims being correct l check mine once a month about 1500 mile and it works great and the mpg never drops and if you dont check it some times a fault code comes up changed the offending item you can tell right away so for a fiver and the free torqe app you will save a fortune as everybody says wont work on diesel tho

You will see a message it will say. "Why you no wrissen glasshopper". :D:D:D

:D:D:D:D

That would be a result!

Yes, I have one and a doozle. Unfortunately I've just remembered I've lent it to someone! I'll try and recover it in the week and see if I get the predicted result. It was Chinese so there's just a chance ...

Mine looks like that. Cannot remember if it is the same one exactly. It works brilliantly on the Vauxhall and the Jag. Will try Rangie when I recover it.

Well, just for completeness I tried it and it says it cannot communicate with the ECU. So, confirmed not compatible as suspected.

I've seen garage diagnostics talk to these M51 engines so it must be possible. Did BMW use to use some ADS protocol? I've got vague memories of K-line and L-line that I'm sure someone could explain. Not that I'm that hassled as the Nanocom does everything and more than I can understand!

Ah bummer just wanted it for a gadget really haha. Not shelling out for a nanocom or any other expensive stuff. Its easier to go to a garage and slip the lad a bottle of wine. Havent got eas and dont plan on having it until a spring breaks. so i dont think i need a fancy computer for now lol

I needed mine when it lost synch and then again when it decided to immobilise itself in town and dump the missus. Hasn't happened since I changed the RF receiver but I don't go far without it!
