'Tell you something I've found on my RRC (yes I know that's not a P38, but the same thinking could apply) in that tyre age can make a noticeable difference to the ride on tarmac.
My '87 Vogue, on coils obviously, has General Grabber AT tyres that are now 12 years old so the rubber has hardened & I can certainly feel any imperfection in the road surface (in Essex? surely not) much more than I used to.

Agreed the rubber should really be replaced at that age, but due to a combination of an annual sub. 1K mileage & thoughts of maybe moving the old girl on this year make me reluctant to blow £500+ :(
Yip, approved theory my mate.
I get around 40k miles from my 38's tyres and they are starting to micro crack... It's time for new ones even though there is still a decent bit of tread left.. 🤔
OH the choice🤷

Well, to go to the original topic...I previously had a p38 with poly's installed by the PO. Driving at 60mph it felt like something was trying to rip the front axle from underneath the car ie death wobble, pretty unnerving on a motorway...once I put oem rubber in the problem disappeared immediately
