Evening all,
After looking around for the past six months and utilising your collective wealth of information, I thought I ought to actually “make it official” so...
Hello I’m Kate and my fella and I own a Land Rover 90 (1986 2.5 NAD) she’s a year younger than myself. Got it 6 months ago. Been well looked after, mechanically sound, and only really needs cosmetic work, though there are some other bits I’d like to do - like adding a clutch assist seeing as my weak lady legs struggle a bit ( I have a serious case of automatic left leg atrophy from driving the Volvo V70 T5 :p )... some new front doors (rotted undersides), some patch welds here and there and - 1st on the list - a new vent panel (again rot got it but I have one sat in the dining room ready to go on).
Plan on repainting once jobs are done (hah are they ever?!) then I’ll concentrate on tarting up the inside a bit.
Anyway, thanks for having a read, look forward to learning more from you all and hopefully being able to help others when I (I mean the fella) can!!

Welcome to the forum, I've got bloke legs and still found the clutch swap a vast improvement especially if sat in traffic.

Marmaduke I’m glad to know it’s not just me, fellas legs are like a rugby players on steroids so he finds it easy and I have to admit I’ve never really driven what he would consider a “proper car” got one on order so we will see whether it helps (it better do, school runs and footy are a nightmare at the mo).

Older model tratters need the whole pedal replacing not just the spring as they are not setup correctly so depending on what you've got and what you've ordered you might be wasting your money. I ended up having to replace the whole pedal on my 90:oops:

If it’s not the right bit it’s not to much of a problem.
Drove round yesterday eve and picked the eldest up from Sea Cadets, found the clutch easier, think I’m just getting more used to it.
Can I just ask, is it normal for no heat to come from the heater? I know they are pretty pants but... I’m gunna flush it through and check it’s not blocked etc.
We went Newquay for the kids footy which is a good 16 mile away and it only seemed to warm slightly more than the Baltic wind outside, even then I think that was more the sun from the windscreen!! Due to vent panel and front doors the landers not exactly air tight but I was checking the heater vents and there was no difference really, is it worth checking the fan and temp levers and making sure they are connected proper? If so I’ll have a look on here at what to do and how and get on it.

Does the fan work? it should have 3 speeds:

Nothing,
Summer Breeze
Blowing with effort.

You can try to disconnect the cables on the heater box and see if the internal flaps are allowed to move to the stop positions then reconnect the cables at the correct adjustment point.

Do the pipes into and out of the heater box get warm / hot?

Hi neilly, after your explanation it would appear that fan is not working as well as it should. We get a sort of “someone breathing out of their mouth very gently” on the highest speed.
Will check whether the pipes do or no once I’m back this evening.

Check the electrical connection near the heater box, they can get corroded / dirty. You may be lucky and that will solve it.

Mine does that, the only way you know you've changed the fan setting is the "click" at the lever and a louder fan noise. No real change in air flow. :rolleyes:
For what it's worth, she warms up after about fifteen miles, just in time for me to get out where I work :D

Ahhh fantastic...unless I go Penzance, I never have a journey over 16 miles 1 way... :eek: doesn’t bother me particularly (the workout from the steering and clutch keeps me toasty) but it’s lucky the kids have scarfs, hats and gloves - moaning bastards :p
 
My daughter gets to ride in the back of my 90, with a cushion on her head for when she gets bounced against the ceiling ;)
