For ****s and giggles and also because I have nothing better to do today I measured the voltages on all 3 of my toys.

1999 V8
12.02v with engine off
13.8v with engine idling
13.8v with engine at 2000rpm

1997 V8
11.97v with engine off
13.67v with engine idling
13.67v with engine at 2000 rpm

Cherokee
12.3v with engine off
14.4v with engine idling
14.4v with engine at 2000rpm.

Worth stating that my meter hasn't been calibrated since the day I bought it which is about 10 years ago. That said none of my cars showed an increase in voltage with a higher rpm. Also all three batteries would likely be recommended for replacing given their low starting voltage state. All three started on the button as is the norm.

To take the reading at 2000 rpm you need to have headlamps and blowers on to get a true picture. :)

I think it's fair to say your meter is fine, as if were to be reading ~0.5V down to account for the 11.97 (Data said that 12.5V was about half charged I think), that would give nearly 15V on the Jeep, which I think sounds too much?

With that in mind, what does the fact that all 3 of those battery read barely above the 12V quoted, yet "started on the button" mean for this discussion? (What are the V8s attached to incidentally?)
