So... I've never had working aircon since I bought the car 2 years back. Only just got around to checking it out seeing as I was at Emmotts of Colne getting a fresh rear wiper motor. One free nitrogen test later and great news! The system appears to hold its pressure! SWEET! Bad news, of course the leccy aircon fan has seized (God know when!). Seeing as new LR items cost around £300 I believe, I got a S/H fan from Emmotts recently £60.
Weekend arrived, settle down to do job.

Fresh fan CHECK!

Only 3 screws to undo the front grille... UTTER RUBBISH! Non-facelift hockey sticks slot into the bottom of the grille and have little bracket too! Sorted that out with a plunge saw

Try and remove four bolts...BUGGER! Only one shifted on it's own with a spanner (top left) - yes, the one which hasn't had 14 years of crap on it. Concerning the other three, one came out with mole grips, the other two just sheared in place! I sawed through the bottom left lug of the fan housing just to get the fan out of the way of that one Oh, and you have to drill the pop-rivets out of the bonnet catch tray (presumably this helps prevent a bow wave crusting it up) so you can get the mole grips in there.

Fan out...CHE... OH WAIT! You have to undo the cross braces so the fan has enough room to manoeuvre out from the front body panels!

Install new fan..CHECK! With two bolts and a tie wrap...

Fire up Hawkeye and do circuit test on fan - SWEET! It works. Here comes A/C as soon as I get it re-gassed..... unless the A/C pump's clutch has gone. I believe I can only find that out once the system has got refrigerant in it -the electronics won't let you run A/C without sufficient refridgerant.

Not near a PC to get the exact details of which relay but you can test the clutch by bridging the appropriate relay, that's how I tested mine before a re-gas. It's also worth checking the condition of the pipe from the dryer just where it goes through a P clip near the horn. If it's badly pitted consider changing it.

I should say that I can hear a click when I use Hawkeye for the clutch circuit, so at least the power side appears to work.....
