Hi - hope you can help. I'm new to Range Rovers so apologies if I don't explain myself well.

The air suspension is no longer working at all. It's been down (on its bumpers?) a couple of times but rose up to normal height when started. Now it's down permanently but I get no error message and the garage are saying the computer is not reporting any faults. The air compressor is sucking in air (they said this) and they have manually pumped the suspension up. So I need to decide what to do. To pay and have them spend an eternity looking for a fault or pay to put on springs or get rid. I have heard an occasional clicking from under the passenger dash- not sure if this is relevant.

Car is well serviced, 170k - 1996. 4.6 HSE

Thanks

I'm fairly new as well and had a number of EAS issues myself. Firstly the clicking is normal and its just the valves releasing pressure to level out the car. The first thing i would do is look at the compressor. Make sure your getting air into it and if its still happening then you can look for leaks. Most LR specialists sell a compressor refurb kit (£15 from Bearmach) and its pretty easy to fit. Worked for me.

Is your garage a specialist? You're average code reader won't talk to the air suspension system. If you have a laptop, there's a nice man on here (Datatek) that will sell you the right cable for around £15 and supply you with the software and instructions. Then you can diagnose it yourself. It is reasonably simple. For example, replacing the air bags is easy DIY.

Put your location in your profile, maybe someone local has the gear to check it for you!

As ever, look at the "How to" at top of page and follow the checking procedure outlined. Then you will have an idea what's wrong. Then come back and tell us we can then maybe help you.

If the compressor is duff and not pumping or the diaphragm valve is leaking there won't be any faults to read. But getting the stuff from Keith is a good move.

Firstly a standerd one size fits nowt code reader wont work on the eas
Get the cable from daratec even if you dont need it now you will be glad youve got it when you do need it
Learn how to use it ! Read the instructions make sure you know how to get it to "talk"
If you havent got a message on the dash thats not to say you wont! Sometime it takes a while for the computer to figure out there is a fault
How did the garage blow it up?

Thanks for your messages. The garage is RST LandRover in West Mersea - a specialist. To be honest they didn't seem interested. They implied the compressor was working as it was sucking in air!
The guy was saying that the car was or can be lifted via a normal pump (assume tyre). I think I'll just bring her home and try the software.

Bring it home. Go to top of page look in "HOW TO" section, follow my instructions for checking compressor and diaphragm valve, you just need a 8 mm and 12 mm spanner then report back what you find.

If you need a new valve block or compressor give me a message I have both brand new, hope you sort it out, unfortunately there are a lot of garages that do not want to touch the eas system. Grrrrr can vouch for my valve block and compressors, good luck :)

I second the Lead and Software from Datatek...

Used it on a fellow members P38, worked first time...no fecking about....bang on

It's now recognizing there's a fault. Just need to wait for the cable and software......and some reasonable weather to give it a try (also under orders to clear the loft first)!!

Datatec quick question?
Ive got the lead from a few years ago that pluged straight into my old laptop
But my currant laptop dont have the serial port
And ive heard that windows7 wont work with a usb adapter on the eas softwere
Any coment/advise?

I use Win7 and I used one of Datatek leads on my Win7 laptop using a USB/Serial adaptor on a fellow members P38....worked first time, no problems with comms, straight in, read codes, unlock, disconnect and the vehicle jumped up....aces....

I don't know the make of the USB/Serial adaptor as I have had it for about 8 years and as I have no other use for it, gave it to the member who I helped out, but I plugged it in, waited for Windows to moan it couldn't install the drivers, selected Find Drivers Using Windows Update....downloaded the driver, fired it up...Roberts your Mothers Brother......

It works fine on Windows 7. The problem seems to be the cheap Chinese fake "Prolific" Serial to USB adapters. The genuine Prolific driver often doesn't work on the fakes. But you can get a driver. Often from the ebay store that supplies you the adapter.

Win 7 is fine with USB to serial adaptors, Vista was the big problem. Prolific adaptors have been cloned by the Chinks and finding a driver that works can be difficult, FTDG adaptors are more expensive but easier to get working.
I have tested Prolific adaptors with XP 32/64, Vista 32 and Win 7 64 and have had no problems except with Vista.
You will have to select the comms port in the EAS drop down menu, other than that, there are no problems.

Okay weather is good and I now have the cables to run the program from Keith. The software outputs Tx as initially 1:0 to 4:0 and then a series of FF and ones. The only response from Rx is PP when the outputs first start.

Any idea what now? I tried several times and have un and re-plugged the cable but no joy.
