More to the point, them diesels is sloooow! 
Can't really comment on all models of RR as mine's a P38. The EAS is fairly robust but as these cars are aging there are a lot of failures and chain-reactions you'll read about here. No way around the fact that the system is more complicated than it needs to be (that's LR for you). Dealing with some kind or air suspension problem in the course of your ownership is almost guaranteed but keeping a cool mind and working through logically will usually get you through with only moderate amounts of profanity...

Like you I was wary of the P38 for a while. I tried to find a nice Classic instead, but the Classics that aren't complete rotboxes were too expensive.
So I researched the P38 and I found the EAS software by RSW, bought a lead and a really cheap Toughbook laptop. This laptop can also run the OBD software by Alex Peper in the USA I use for my Fords; I just need the ISO lead to read my Rangey's diagnostics.
I've had my 4.0 SE for three months now and there is just nothing else like it. Just driving it is a special occasion every time you get in. If you're thinking of doing it then do; I had a landy years ago but the P38 is just something else!

basically a p38 is a mkii range rover,the smooth one usually wiv lots of toys + a lot of electronics which can cause a lot of fustration,you can cure most things cheaply you have to think outside the box!!!!!!!(so im learning),i have no end of niggles with mine but it allways goes,its smooooth and addictive,its very different especially when your a spanner ,hammer and feeler gauge man.........dave
