I am having issues with my 300Tdi fuel systems, no matter what I do its suffering from air in the fuel (it foams through the filter bleed screw when I try to bleed it). I have replaced the pump e.t.c. but it seems like its in the lines somewhere. I have got to the point where it would just be easier to run some new lines instead of dicking about.

Now LR lines will be pricey so im thinking of just getting some made up but before I do that I wanted to ask if anyone does a kit for the disco 1 that would save me the hassle of getting them made up?
 
you need to look at sender unit under the plate in boot floor ,passeger side one is suction ,then the sedimentor on chassis behine rear wheel best to bypass it ,you can either use rubber fuel hose from sender to lift pump or use copper pipe 5/16 or similar with rubber pipe ends or get pushfit 8mm to join plastic pipe ,its normally corrosion on sedimentor or sender unit,hose clipping rubber pipe to sender is okay instead of nut and olive
 
Yep, done all that, I have even used a diesel resistant sealant and sealed every join and rubber seal, still getting it. Its driveable still at the moment but its annoying that I have to rebleed it every few days!!

I might just get a length of fuel hose and run it straight from the sender to lift pump, no sedimenter e.t.c.

8mm pipe you say?
 
When I put the 200tdi from a discovery into my range rover, I got a 10m roll of rubber fuel pipe (i think 8mm internal diameter but not 100%) which is enough to go from fuel take to filter, and back again for the return. Got it off ebay for about £20. Aswell as that I got a bunch of new jubilee 'fuel pipe' clamps, and a bag of plastic p-clips which I think are 13mm as for the outside diameter of the pipe, to help tidy the job up and hold the pipe in place firmly and safely. All together works out as about 30 quid and takes maybe 2 hours to do. You dont need the sedimenter at all, defender dont have them.

Right, little update, I got me a new reel of 8mm fuel line and ran a new pipe from the tank to the lift pump, took me 10 mins (benifit of having a lift) and has cured all my problems... the fuel now bleeds without foaming and the thing starts after being stood a while... Im going to put it down to the sedimentor, what a pile of crap that bit is!!

Hi ive had similar problems, changed lift pump, filter fitted return valve, been a nightmare starter for 3 week gid it one last chance bleed and its been fine, this week but i may do the same as you and replace fuel lines, where did you get the pipe from :)

Go for it, it will make a massive difference, all I done was run the pipe above the chassis rail between the body, it now starts on the button....

I get my fuel line through the trade, not sure where the best place to get it is though, prob euros or somewhere like that, maybe a local hose and hydralic place? its just plain 8mm fuel line, one end goes on the tank, the other straight to the fuel pump...
 
Sorry for digging up a old thread but I'm in need of help ;), did you only just do from the sender to the lift pump by passing the sediment ?? As I'm hoping to do all the fuels lines possible including the injector ones and was wondering the size of these.

And I'm I right on the 300tdi there isn't a fuel pressure regulator or have I read something else ??

the biggest issue is sender to lift pump as its under suction, removing sedimenter does remove some possible problems
 
Well I seem to have a air intake on the fuel lines although when I get doing the job or the rain stops I'll take some pictures of a someone's bodge fix it consist of some brake line to oversized bits of rubber pipes and wait for it what appears to be a household silicone as its deteriorating and slightly leaking!

pics are good its sensible to have one piece from sender to lift pump if possible
 
Well that's my 10m of fuel line ordered and hopfully that will be enough from what I have been reading!! I will get pictures of the bodge and while I'm renewing them and hopefully put a little how to guide together as I couldn't find anything on it.

Also by any chance is the piping on the injectors 8mm as that's starting to look brittle too.

late to the thread, but -

when i re-plumbed the 101 (hs2.8 - 300tdi-a-like) i used clear nylon tube.
its more bother to install (you need compression fittings and inserts in most cases) but it seems to be lasting ok
its great having clear tube as, for example, you can run the engine, and gradually tighten up the fittings where any air ingress is and spot any further issues easily.

when i do the 110, ill use the same.
