hi there on way home last night and lost drive on my discovery i think that it mite be the gear box i have a 300 tdi dose any body no if a 200 gear box will fit:confused::confused:

Have you been playing with the hi - low lever? It could have just slipped in to neutral.
It could also be a half shaft or a diff that has gone...Were there any bangs when it happened?

Have you checked the Transfer box lever hasn't just slipped into neutral?
Have you checked the prop-shafts and UJ's are still connected?
Have you checked the gearbox outputs turn when in gear?
Have you checked the half-shafts?

So much to check before you buy another gearbox ... 'cos it (seriously) might be a £10 fix instead of £hundreds ... ;)

thanks alot will have a look it was dark when i looked just seamed to be making a clunking noise when you try to drive

just tryed it moved about foot then stoped it seems to do that in all the gears so would that maybe the saft going in to transfir box that has worn the teeth of the saft

You could try engaging diff lock and seeing if it will drive with that engaged. This would rule out a broken halfshaft because the transmission won't be able to send all the power to the point of least resistance, in this case a shaft with no wheel attached to the end of it.

Behind the Tdi both the LT77 (200 box) and the R380 (300 box) are interchangeble. You will have to swap speedo housing and hand brake housing as sender is different for speedo and hand brake cable/mech is different too.

Do it in a day no bother.
