Have just got this vehicle and find that the tailgate dose not lock. No warning light shows inside to say it's open any ideas

Hi everyone. I own a 2006 Range Rover sport HSE. I've been having issues with opening my tailgate. I have tested all wires and latches and they are completely fine but the tailgate ajar cable is signalling that the tailgate is open whereas it is actually closed. Both latches tested and are good and have been tested by being put manually together but the sign displaying 'tailgate open' remains on the dash. Plus the tailgate doesn't want to open. So I'm stuck with a non opening boot and a annoying sign saying it's open. Anyone with any suggestions will be appreciated. I'm just so tired of trying everything on this car
