Hello,

Can anyone explain the wiring circuit between my battery and the injection pump stop solenoid on my 200tdi 90 please? Does it pass through any resistors or relays etc on its way through the ignition and is there anything in the system which could draw current away from the wire?

Stop solenoids can short to ground or the wire could be breaking down. By running a fused direct feed from the battery to the solenoid and then test running can sometimes shed light on whether it's the solenoid or the wiring at fault.
 
Thanks for both replies. I am just trying to get my head around a few things with my 90. You might recall that I was having an idle misfire problem with my 200tdi. Well I seem to have cured this by winding the full fuel screw out half a turn (it was over fuelling by the looks of things) but at the same time some of my electrics have gone funny, coincidence or is there something affecting the current to my stop solenoid? ...All my lights are flickering (bright to dim) and the tail lights can't decide whether they want to work or not, sometimes illuminating, sometimes not. My side lights also illuminate along with the dash lights as I press the brakes and it has got me wondering whether or not the current to my stop solenoid has been fluctuating causing the idle??

I fix one problem and then another one crops up!

earth strap has broken or rusted with poor connection. Put a jump lead from engine therm housing ali keep wire out of reach of moving components and directly on the negative so you have a good earth to your engine block. if the flickering stops you need a better earth.

I agree with Jai

It certainly sounds like an earth fault.
 
Please forgive me if this is really dumb....I had an issue recently where the connector to my stop solenoid was loose and causing my engine to feel like it was running rough whereas in fact it was switching on and off for brief periods due to the poor connection. I fixed it by crimping the female and giving the male connector s clean. Made a HUGE difference!! Just a thought

Good idea, I'll give that a try. I have a new earth strap between the battery bolted directly to the gearbox, so connection should be good there but i will give it a try none the less.

Not dumb at all! In this case I know that the connection is good because I replaced the spade connector a few months back for that very reason ;)
